The Youngstown Foundation Awards Grant to Second Harvest Food Bank (03/23/12)
The Youngstown Foundation has awarded $20,000 to the Food Bank toward
the cost of constructing a protective enclosure at the warehouse delivery entrance.
As a storehouse for edible food that distributes over 35,000 pounds of food each day, Second Harvest
Food Bank takes every effort to protect and ensure the integrity of product distributed. The enclosure will
allow the Food Bank to achieve the nation’s highest food safety certification as established by the food
industry’s top food safety specialists, AIB International. “We thank the board and staff of The Youngstown
Foundation for their continued support of our efforts to feed those in need in our community,” said Mike
Iberis, executive director of the Food Bank.
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley distributes food to 153 hunger relief
organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. They include church pantries,
homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs. For more
information on how you can help feed hungry families, please call 330.792.5522.
