Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley received a grant for $3,000 through Target’s Community Giving program to help fund the BackPack Program at Campbell Elementary School. This is the second consecutive year Target has provided funding to help feed hungry children in our community. The funds will be used to help sustain the program throughout the 2012-2013 school year.
The BackPack Program is a national program of Feeding America, and is designed to meet the needs of children when other resources for food are not available, such as weekends and holidays. Each Friday during the school year, 150 third- and fourth-graders at Campbell Elementary School take home a bag of child-friendly, nutritious food to eat over the weekend.
“We greatly appreciate the continued support of Target,” said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank. “With more than half of the children in our community eligible for free and reduced-price meals, the sustainability of this program is critical,” said Iberis.
