Macy’s has awarded Second Harvest Food Bank $1,400 through their district grant program to support the BackPack Program in the Warren City Schools, which provides 150 children food to eat over the weekends during the school year. The funds will be used to help sustain the program throughout the 2012-2013 school year.
“We are grateful to Macy’s for their ongoing support of the Food Bank,” said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. “This gift will ensure that food is available to the youngsters over the weekend.”
The BackPack Program is a national program of Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of children when other resources for food are not available such as weekends and holidays. In the Mahoning Valley, BackPack Programs are serving Warren, Struthers and Campbell elementary schools, providing food to 375 children each week. More than 150 Feeding America food banks across the county operate BackPack Programs, distributing nearly 230,000 bags of child-friendly nutritious food to hungry children.
