Stop by and pet an alpaca llama on Saturday, March 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. outside Tractor Supply Company, located at 6625 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown. The Llucky Llama 4-H club will be collecting monetary donations for the Harvest for Hunger campaign. Each March, the Llucky Llama 4-H club sets up this event, and since 2003, they have raised nearly $4,400, which has enabled the Food Bank to distribute $66,000 worth of food to our friends and neighbors.
The Llucky Llama 4-H club has been in existence for 14 years and averages 15-20 members per year, ranging in age from 8-18 years old. In addition to working with animals, youngsters are also given in the opportunity to explore other interests including cooking, wood working, model rocketry and computers.
Harvest for Hunger is one of the largest annual, community-wide food and funds drives in the nation, and takes place in 21 counties in northeast Ohio during March and April. The campaign is a collaborative effort of four food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, and Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. All funds raised and food collected will remain in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to feed our friends and neighbors.
