The Ward Beecher Foundation Awards Food Bank $25,000 for Roof Repairs

The Ward Beecher Foundation has awarded $25,000.00 to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for roof repairs.

In 2014, the Food Bank distributed a record 9.5 million pounds of food, including fresh fruits and vegetables through a network of 153 member agencies – church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs in the tri-county area.  The distribution of food in the Mahoning Valley has more than doubled over the past decade.

“In 2003, Dr. Jacques and Joyce Politi donated the current warehouse building to Second Harvest, which generously provided the much needed space for the Food Bank to expand its daily operations to meet the growing demand for food in the community,” said Mike Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank. “The goal of this project is to repair the 23-year-old roof so that the Food Bank may continue to safely store and distribute millions of pounds of food to member agencies in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties,” said Iberis.

“We are grateful to The Ward Beecher Foundation for their continued support of our work to ensure our friends and neighbors have enough food for their families,” Iberis added.  Davis International will complete the construction of the roof in late summer of 2015.
