Citizens Bank Awards $10,000 Gift to Support Mobile Pantry in Columbiana

September is Hunger Action Month and as part of their Citizens Helping Citizens Fight Hunger program, Citizens Bank has joined the movement by volunteering their time to distribute boxes of food and fresh produce to families in need through the Mobile Pantry program in Columbiana County. On Hunger Action Day, September 14, Citizens Bank volunteers gave their time distributing boxes of food and fresh produce to families in need, and made the announcement of a $10,000 gift to ensure the Mobile Pantry program is funded for an entire year. 

The Mobile Pantry program brings food to seniors and families that live in underserved areas in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.  The Food Bank sends a truck with boxes of non-perishable food items, prepared by volunteers, along with fresh fruits and vegetables to a designated site in each county once a month.  The Mobile Pantry program in Columbiana County operates the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10 am to noon at Fellowship of the Beloved Church in Hanoverton. 

“The Mobile Pantry program in Hanoverton fills approximately 200 requests for food each month. This generous gift from Citizens Bank will ensure that the families benefitting from this program will be fed for an entire year and for that we are grateful,” said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

“Hunger exists in every community with many families struggling to put food on the table daily,” said Ralph Della Ratta, president, Citizens Bank, Ohio. “Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley does incredible work to help get food to our community neighbors and we are proud to provide them the support to help make this happen. Hunger Action Month should be a call for all of us to make a long-term commitment to ending hunger.” 

Citizens Bank’s year-round Citizens Helping Citizens Fight Hunger effort is part of the bank’s broader Citizens Helping Citizens program, which addresses four key areas: hunger, economic development, financial education and volunteerism.
